A Practice Built on Steadiness
Chakra Counsel was established to offer Chiang Mai families a different kind of legal experience — deliberate, private, and attentive to the whole situation.
Return HomeOur Story
Chakra Counsel was founded in Chiang Mai with a straightforward observation: family legal matters rarely arrive at a convenient time, and the people facing them rarely feel at ease with formal legal processes. The practice was established to change that experience — not through speed or aggressive strategy, but through calm, consistently present advocacy.
The name draws on the Thai concept of cycles — the idea that change moves in circles, and that difficult transitions carry within them the conditions for renewed steadiness. It is a frame that suits family law well. Separations, renegotiations, and new beginnings are not failures; they are moments that call for careful handling.
The practice focuses on three areas: pre-marital agreement drafting, mediation support, and full divorce mandates. These are handled by senior advocates who take one client through the entirety of their matter — no transfers between team members, no repetition of context, no sense of being a file number. Clients working with us find that the process, while never effortless, is at least clear.
Chiang Mai draws residents from many countries, and many of our clients navigate Thai law alongside foreign jurisdictions. This cross-border dimension is something we address thoughtfully rather than passing to external referrals. We maintain current working knowledge of the property and family law considerations that arise when one or both parties hold assets or residency outside Thailand.

The Advocates
Each client works with one advocate throughout. The team is small by design.
Aranya Phommasak
Senior Family Law Advocate
Called to the Thai Bar in 2011, Aranya has focused on family matters since 2014. She leads most pre-marital and mediation engagements and is known for her ability to hold difficult conversations with composure.
Thomas Wichitrak
Advocate — Cross-Border Matters
Thomas holds dual qualifications in Thai and English law. He handles divorce mandates involving international assets and has particular experience with matters concerning European and Australian nationals.
Nattaya Lertsiri
Client Liaison & Documentation
Nattaya manages all client correspondence and documentation scheduling. She ensures that no client is left without a clear next step, and that scheduling respects each person's circumstances.
Professional Standards
Our conduct is shaped by obligations to the Thai Bar and by our own internal commitments.
Registered with the Thai Bar
All advocates are licensed members of the Lawyers Council of Thailand. Our registrations are current and verifiable.
Strict Confidentiality Protocol
All client communications are held under legal professional privilege. Documents are stored on encrypted systems with access restricted to the assigned advocate.
Ethical Conduct Standards
We do not advise on matters where we hold a conflict of interest, and we disclose any potential conflicts at the outset of each engagement.
Document Integrity
All agreements and court documents prepared by Chakra Counsel are reviewed by a second advocate before submission or signature.
Continuing Legal Education
Each advocate completes at least 24 hours of continuing legal education annually, with a focus on family law developments in Thai and comparative jurisdictions.
Client Communication Charter
We respond to all client communications within one working day. Clients are never left without a clear update on the status of their matter.
Family Law in Chiang Mai
Thailand's family law framework is governed by the Civil and Commercial Code, which addresses marriage, divorce, property, and parental rights. For residents of Chiang Mai who are navigating these provisions — whether preparing for marriage, considering separation, or seeking resolution through mediation — having a qualified local advocate is a meaningful practical advantage.
Pre-marital agreements in Thailand must meet specific formal requirements to be enforceable. When one or both parties hold foreign nationality or assets abroad, the drafting process benefits from an advocate who understands both the Thai requirements and the relevant international considerations. At Chakra Counsel, we approach each pre-marital agreement as a distinct document rather than a template exercise.
Family mediation has gained formal recognition within the Thai legal system. When parties are willing to work toward a negotiated outcome, mediation can reduce both the duration and the cost of resolution. Our mediation support engagements are designed for those who want legal representation during that process — without the dynamic of contested adversarial proceedings.
Where divorce proceedings are unavoidable, our full mandate model provides consistent, senior-level representation from initial filing through to judgment. We handle the administrative and court dimensions so that clients can focus on the personal dimensions of their situation.
